Nine years ago, a group of twenty people gathered with Reverend Chavis in the fellowship hall of Kadesh Baptist Church and organized Victory Community Church and selected Revered Chavis to be the Senior Pastor. This group of twenty has expanded to over three hundred members with a multitude of ministries and community projects and programs. Under Pastor Chavis’ leadership, Victory Community Church also successfully launched a 501C3, Victory Community Development Corporation. The ministry has been blessed, first starting services in 2012 with humble beginnings in the basement of Don Bosco Hall on West Chicago in Detroit. In 2014 we were blessed to move to West 7 Mile to our own facility. There we started our children’s church and launched our Victory Community Day in August to serve and support those in need in the community. The Lord continued to expand Victory Church and on Easter 2017, Victory Community Church moved to its current location at 14025 Hubbell in Detroit at the corner of Hubbell and Grand River. This facility is in alignment with the vision of the ministry and expansion plans for a community computer lab, child care center, and summer programing. The facility holds over 300, has its own baptismal pool, and multiple classrooms.
In 2018, Pastor Chavis was elevated to the office of Bishop and consecrated by his father in ministry, Bishop Gregory L. Foster Sr. He was also asked to serve as the presiding prelate of the Interdenominational Assembly of Churches where he served for one year but has since resigned as prelate to concentrate on his church, community work, and other projects. Victory Church continues to work diligently in the community and has been a tremendous blessing by giving away over 250 bicycles, over 500 back to school backpacks, supporting the City of Detroit Safe Sleep Initiative and giving away over 100 pack and plays to mothers in need, as well as feeding over 1000 people in various food drives and initiatives. Victory’s hallmark event continues to be their August Victory in the Community event that now brings hundreds of vendors and resources to the community as free clothing, food, and support for families in need.
